LANDSCAPE-DESIGN  Terrace of a pizzeria

Pizzeria:tekening hekwerk

Description

The assignment was to create a terrace for a pizzeria, in the touristic village of Renesse, in the province of Zeeland, in The Netherlands.

A proper terrace has an essential commercial aspect in Renesse, since this village thrives on tourism. The design had to take in consideration, not only the commercial practicality (f.i. the staff's walking distance, overview), but also the emotional experience of the guests.

The lay-out of the ground-plan exists of a pavement with hedges and two pergolas. The streetside is covered by a fence.

Pavements of two different colours and materials, coupled with the pergolas, emphasize the entrance. The pergolas, have been constructed with bulky concrete pillars, which consist of aluminium-cement, (colour: olivebrown) and are covered with branches of oak.

The arrangement of the terrace is accentuated by arch-like hedges. The advantage of this is that the way the terrace is used stays flexible.

In the evenings the restaurant sells pizza-slices. This image is reflected in the styled fence, with elements of pizza's, made in cast iron. This way the public can identify what kind of business is behind the fence.
