Historical model of a vessel, with the name "Haringbuis", similar to the type of ship which sailed the waters of the provinces of Holland and Zeeland in a period between 1550 until 1600 A.D. This is a reproduction of on old sandstone model. The historical features, like for instance the fishermen, are proportionally oversized, something which was also common in paintings from this era.Sizes

The is a lot of historical knowledge available about this type of vessel. For instance a medieval book called 'Descriptio Zelandiae' from 1550 gives detailed drawings of fully equipped vessels, including specific craftmenship of the people who worked on board. "Haringbuizen" were fishing the Doggersbank and could stay on full sea for more than two months.
