Eric Odinot is landscaper, designer and sculptor
Eric Odinot is a practical and grounded person; he expresses himself in different media like concrete, cast iron, bronze and in various synthetic materials. His art-objects are often functional and integrated into the environment in which they are placed. His designs seem to be taken carelessly from nature or our natural surroundings. His art-objects seem to play with nature. Expressed in basic materials the objects reflect a sense of not being material and conjure a feeling of surprise. In many of Eric's gardens, art has a place. This may be a in a practical form, like a table made with moss, which makes a quiet focus as an all-seasons green spot. Or the art is found in his major water- objects like a lily-source, integrated in a design for a part-public organisation.
Independent commissions have been made by Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam for Eric to create a set of bronze birds. They are bronze 'touch'- sculptures : even a blind person has to be able to sense and touch the contours of the birds. Eric also works for others on major projects. For instance for the 'Lost Luggage Depot' he has constructed many models, which all had to be cast in iron. When needed, Eric works with different media of art. This means work with other artists, sculptors, industrial designers, ceramists, etc.
This reveals itself through the different types of materials used, the practical execution of the objects, together with the intrinsic quality of the cooperation with the subsequent artists.
